The Book of Job: A Bible Study Guide for Men
A godly response in the middle of our suffering
People often ask Christians questions like, “If God is so loving, why do good people get diagnosed with deadly diseases?” Or they might challenge God’s perfect justice by asking why a friend or family member suffered injustice.
The story of Job can be hard for many to understand — why would God subject him and his family to disease, financial loss, and even death? But Job questioned this as well. And in Job 37-41 God heard his cry and responded. In Job 40:8, God challenged Job: “Would you discredit my justice?” God clarifies in this one statement that the assertion a mortal is entitled to an explanation from God is itself foolishness. We can never fully comprehend God’s reasons, plans, or his justice.
